December 4, 2021 | 9:00 am - 4:00 pm | Knife River Recreation Center
The Scandinavian-themed Christmas festival, which has become a holiday tradition for many families, will resemble past Julebyens with some streamlining and safety precautions following any COVID guidelines that may be in place in December. We will keep most activities outdoors or under tents to help make the event safe for attendees.
The Julebyen Express Train that transports festival-goers from Duluth will be running along with the popular “Troll Trains to Troll Canyon.” Hedlund said, “There have already been reports of troll sightings in the Troll Canyon area.”
We will hold this year’s activities in the town’s ball field, transforming it into a festive marketplace. In addition, the nearby Knife River Heritage Cultural Center will be set up as the town’s train depot in 1900.
Julebyen will feature a bakery serving lefse and krumkake, artisan crafts sold from colorful huts in the marketplace, a children’s craft workshop, outdoor games, marsh-mellow roast, and winter sports as weather may allow. A variety of food options will be available at the village as well as the Heritage Center. Scandinavian music and dance and a flag parade will be ongoing throughout the day.
