Knife River
Knife River, MN, was settled by Captain Charles Anderson, a Norwegian seaman born in Oslo in 1840, and his wife Serene. Following the arrival of the Alger-Smith Duluth & Northern Minnesota Railroad, the tiny settlement boomed and remained an important railroad center from 1898 to 1919.
Today Knife River is a small, close-knit community along Lake Superior’s North Shore. You can arrange for charter fishing at the marina or just explore the expansive pebble beach. Additionally, the Superior Hiking Trail starts in town and takes you through birch and evergreen forests.
