Lake County boasts four gorgeous state parks, including Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, Gooseberry Falls State Park, Tettegouche State Park, and George Crosby-Manitou State Park. Our state parks offer miles of scenic hiking trails featuring rivers, waterfalls, and forests.

Two Harbors is a hub for outdoor activities. The town is a section on the Superior Hiking Trail which features 300+ miles of trails alongside Lake Superior. The city also features paved trails within the town. The town hosts the Lake County Fair, The Two Harbors Folk Festival, Heritage Days, and the Two Harbors Kayak Festival. Two Harbors is one of the checkpoints for the Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, as well as the start line for the Grandma’s Marathon and the NorthShore Inline Marathon. Finland, Minnesota is nestled in the Baptism River Valley, surrounded by rugged hills and cliffs, called the Sawtooth Mountains. Its rugged isolation made it one of the last areas of Minnesota to be settled. It wasn’t until the late 1890′s that the first Finns and other Scandinavians began to file for homesteads in this remote section of Lake County. In the northern region of Lake County (just east of Ely, MN) you'll find Fall Lake Township which encompasses a large portion of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).
